Running to Win Trainees Manual
The conspicuous absence of women in political leadership and decision making processes is a global
problem. According to a 2019 study by UN Women, as of June 2019, only 11 women were serving
as Heads of States while 12 were serving as Heads of Governments and only 20.7% were serving as
Government Ministers). As of February 2019, there were 27 States in which women accounted for less
than 10% of parliamentarians in single or lower houses while three Chambers had no women at all (UN
Women 2019).
