Hon. Sabina Chege is the current Woman Representative for Murang’a County and is aspiring for the Gubernatorial Seat. For Hon. Chege, leadership came naturally as she consistently found herself leading her peers and she was nominated as the entertainment prefect while at Mugoiri Girls’ High School. She would later serve as the chairperson of the youth group at her local church. She joined the Kenya National Theatre where she did some acting, even playing a role in the popular Tausi soap opera in Swahili. Hon. Chege holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Communication, both from the University of Nairobi.
Hon. Chege worked within the broadcast media for years and was known for raising development-related issues. After attending a peace initiative organized by AMWIK in Maela, Naivasha where the communities in the area were able to agree to live harmoniously as a result of radio programs, Hon. Sabina Chege was able to realize that speaking to the people directly through the media can encourage dialogue and make a lot of impact. As a result, felt she could make more impact by representing the people of Muranga on a national level. This was her motivation to join politics, where she cites prayers as the guidance that she uses to grow in the political space. Her vision is to transform the lives of the residents of Muranga county.
In Muranga, the legislator uses the Sabina Wanjiru Chege Foundation to support needy children, a passion she has having educated more than forty children in Muranga before being elected to parliament. Hon. Sabina is determined to help needy families that cannot afford school fees and has begun a mentorship program in primary and high schools within the county. Hon. Sabina Chege was elected the chairperson of the Education, Science, and Technology Committee. She is also a member of the Joint Committee on Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library and the Housekeeping Committee on Liaison in parliament. She is a member of the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK).
