I am Scholastica Madowo, popularly known as Masidis (localized version of Mercedes). I will be vying for Member of County Assembly (MCA) for South East Alego Ward in Siaya County which is the largest Ward in Siaya County and the second-largest in the entire country.
I am a sociopreneur & currently the Director of Opando Tumaini Academy in Barolengo sub-location in Siaya County. Through the school, I continue to improve the standards of education in the rural area of Barolengo and its environs. I am also the Executive Director of Tumaini Community Resource Centre, a Community-Based Organisation, also based in Barolengo, which seeks to empower the communities in all facets of everyday life with the main objective of uplifting the living standards of the rural population who are predominantly subsistence farmers. The CBO has a vibrant Youth For Change (YFC) program that engages the youth in many empowerment activities including a recent engagement in civic education on the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting online learning for students during the long closure of schools as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and also in using sports as a tool for behaviour change. The empowerment of women and girls is also a strong component.
I believe I have gained great knowledge, skills, together with vast experience in management and leadership at both local and international levels, as well as with the United Nations, through which I have built extensive networks which I believe are useful for my leadership. These are strengths that I bring to the table to bring transformational change in South East Alego.
I am looking at building infrastructure, attracting investors, and creating jobs, especially for the youth, supporting modern farming and identification of markets, improvement of education and health standards, growing small businesses, implementing special programs for vulnerable groups, among others.
I have a passion to see equity, justice, and fairness, and a deep conviction that everyone deserves to lead a decent life irrespective of where they were born.
