Ms. Kabeberi is the immediate past Executive Director of Greenpeace Africa. She has worked as Executive Director at the Centre for Multi-Party Democracy (CMD-Kenya), Country Representative of the Netherlands Institute for Multi-party Democracy, Development Coordinator for East & Southern Africa for Amnesty International. Njeri has just completed her service as Chair of the Board of Advisers of International IDEA (Stockholm), she is on the Board of In-Transformation-Initiative (Pretoria), on the Board of Democracy Works (Pretoria) and on the Board of Democracy Trust Fund (Nairobi). Ms. Kabeberi serves on the Jury of Human Rights Defenders Award – Kenya.
Ms. Kabeberi is an opinion shaper in the area of equality & equity, governance, democracy and human rights, evidenced through her writings, interviews and media engagements. Njeri has been a human rights defender for most of her adult life and has made major sacrifices towards that contribution. From 2016, she offered her vast and deep campaign skills to the environmental justice and awareness campaign through her work at Greenpeace.
Njeri is a recipient of various international awards; among them, the inaugural ‘Humanity Award’ by the Chamber of Lawyers, Frankfurt am Main for ‘Commitment to Law and Justice’, the ‘Democracy Ribbon’ by the City of The Hague for ‘Commitment to Peace and Democracy’ and the ‘ILO Wedge Award 2010’ in recognition of her work to Increase Women Rights in Kenya. In January 2018, Ms. Kabeberi was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Human Rights Defenders Award – 2017” in Kenya for her lifetime commitment towards the protection of human rights.Ms. Kabeberi is currently serving as a Director for Chapter Four Programs and Projects Ltd, based in Nairobi where she is running a Mentorship, Personal Development and Leadership Program for Human Rights Defenders, Journalists, Community Leaders, Women in Politics among others.
